Joined With Christ

Romans 6

3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? 4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

In speaking to the Christians in Rome, Paul says, “or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism...” (emphasis mine). I love the way the NLT renders this verse! It is in Baptism that we are JOINED WITH Christ. Baptism is the point at which our sinful selves are shelved, and the new creation begins. Baptism is the point at which we come into contact with the Blood of Christ which washes away our sins. Baptism is the point at which we join Christ in His death, and are raised into a new life with Him. Paul couldn’t make it any more plain, and those who choose to ignore this teaching are doing a great disservice.
