Washed Pig

2 Peter 2

20 And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. 21 It would be better if they had never known the way to righteousness than to know it and then reject the command they were given to live a holy life. 22 They prove the truth of this proverb: “A dog returns to its vomit.” And another says, “A washed pig returns to the mud.”

Peter makes it clear in this passage that people who follow Christ can indeed turn from that way of living and go back to their sinful lifestyle. While salvation is a free gift from God, it is one we must accept daily. It is a gift that must be first and foremost in our lives, it cannot be like oh so many Christmas gifts in our past that get put up on a shelf to collect dust, or get lost in a sea of other “meaningless gifts.” Living for Christ is something to be done every single moment of every single day of our lives. To do any less is to simply be a “washed pig.”
