David the Persistent Pray-er

Psalm 86

1 Bend down, O Lord, and hear my prayer;

answer me, for I need your help.

2 Protect me, for I am devoted to you.

Save me, for I serve you and trust you.

You are my God.

3 Be merciful to me, O Lord,

for I am calling on you constantly.

Long before Jesus told the story about the need for persistent prayer, David was practicing this habit. It is not wonder he is called a “man after God’s own heart.” No, David was not perfect. Yes, he had plenty of sin in his life. However, David knew how to repent, and he knew how to implore God for His mercies through ceaseless prayer. It is that part of David’s life that I desire to imitate.
