2 John 1
7 I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist. 8 Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked so hard to achieve. Be diligent so that you receive your full reward. 9 Anyone who wanders away from this teaching has no relationship with God. But anyone who remains in the teaching of Christ has a relationship with both the Father and the Son.
The Gnostics taught (among other things) that Jesus didn’t come to earth in a physical body. Gnosticism was infecting the Church in the 1st century, just as forms of it still try to infect Christianity today. The bottom line is this: whether it is a form of Gnosticism or just someone who wants to twist the Scripture for their own purposes, anyone who teaches different stuff from what is CLEARLY taught in the Bible is to be shunned! They are antichrist and we are to avoid them at all costs! Remaining in the teaching of Christ as spelled out in the Bible is the ONLY safe position in which to find one’s self.
