Revelation 3
1 “Write this letter to the angel of the church in Sardis. This is the message from the one who has the sevenfold Spirit of God and the seven stars:
“I know all the things you do, and that you have a reputation for being alive—but you are dead. 2 Wake up! Strengthen what little remains, for even what is left is almost dead. I find that your actions do not meet the requirements of my God. 3 Go back to what you heard and believed at first; hold to it firmly. Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief.
Here we go again, with another warning to a body of believers whose outward appearance does not match their inward motivation. Seems like a pretty consistent complaint God has with His churches, doesn’t it? Lord, help me to have the proper motivation and the proper attitude...one that pleases You and meets Your requirements. My desire to is serve You in love. My desire is love the way You love, and let my service flow out of that love. Protect me from my selfish and self-serving attitude. I do not want to be guilty of a “Sardis” Father. Thank You for Your Word and for this reminder to get my attitude adjusted accordingly.
