Hard Hearts and Rock Bottom

Exodus 7

13 Pharaoh’s heart, however, remained hard. He still refused to listen, just as the Lord had predicted.

The fact that Pharaoh’s heart was hardened was not a shock to God. In fact, God intended to use Pharaoh’s hard heart to prove a great point. God knew that He needed to have the full attention not just of the people of Egypt, but of His people who lived there as slaves. God knew that the children of Israel had to see the absolute rock bottom before they would be ready to trust in Him to deliver them out of this bondage of slavery. I wonder if those who claim to follow Christ in America today are in need of such a lesson. Could that be why things have occurred as they have in this nation? God wants to get the attention of His people, and God is not afraid to allow His people to hit rock bottom to help them realize how utterly dependent they must be on Him. Hmmmm…
