The Truth

Luke 1

1 Many people have set out to write accounts about the events that have been fulfilled among us. 2 They used the eyewitness reports circulating among us from the early disciples. 3 Having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I also have decided to write a careful account for you, most honorable Theophilus, 4 so you can be certain of the truth of everything you were taught.

I LOVE how Luke starts his Gospel. He acknowledges that others are trying to write an account of Jesus, he utilizes eyewitness accounts and conducts a thorough investigation before writing! Luke’s goal is to help his patron (Theophilus) know beyond a reasonable doubt that Jesus is the Christ. Luke wants Theophilus to be certain of the TRUTH of everything he has been taught about Jesus. Truth is Truth, whether you want to believe it or not, but Luke has investigated the story of Jesus to make sure that this story is indeed the TRUTH. May I proclaim this TRUTH at every turn, and may those who hear my proclamations know that what I proclaim about Jesus is true.
