Shepherd Evangelists

Luke 2

16 They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. 17 After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. 18 All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, 19 but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. 20 The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.

The first evangelists to spread the Good News about Jesus’ birth were uneducated, disrespected, lowly shepherds. Their testimony was based on their experience with Jesus. Why is it that so many people who claim to be followers of Christ shy away from telling others about their experience with Jesus? We can no longer use the excuse that we are not educated enough or that we don’t know the Bible well enough, or that we don’t know anything. If we know Jesus…if we have experienced Jesus and the change that He brings to our lives, then we have everything we need to know in order to proclaim His glory to others. Father, make more of us like those lowly shepherds in Luke 2. May we proudly and loudly proclaim Jesus with our lives.
