Nehemiah 4
4 Then I prayed, “Hear us, our God, for we are being mocked. May their scoffing fall back on their own heads, and may they themselves become captives in a foreign land! 5 Do not ignore their guilt. Do not blot out their sins, for they have provoked you to anger here in front of the builders.”
Those opposed to God’s people mocked them. Nehemiah’s response? He prayed. But, check out his prayer – may their scoffing fall back on their own heads, may they become captives in a foreign land, don’t ignore their guilt, don’t blot out their sins. Now, there’s a prayer calling on the righteous indignation of god to protect those who are following Him. We live in a nation and culture that deems it perfectly acceptable to mock those who follow Christ. While I pray that the mockers will have their eyes opened and their hearts softened toward Jesus, I cannot help but think a little more of Nehemiah’s prayer might be appropriate as well. Hmmmm…
