Rejoice

Romans 5

3 We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. 4 And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. 5 And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Paul’s writings here sound a lot like James in chapter one of his letter. Because of our faith in Jesus, because of the gift of God’s indwelling Holy Spirit, we can indeed rejoice in times of problems and trials knowing that they produce endurance. Lord, build my character through whatever means You see fit, so that my character may reflect the love of Christ always. I do realize the implications of such a prayer, and I rejoice in what God sees fit to do with it and with me.
