Fear God

Exodus 20

18 When the people heard the thunder and the loud blast of the ram’s horn, and when they saw the flashes of lightning and the smoke billowing from the mountain, they stood at a distance, trembling with fear.

19 And they said to Moses, “You speak to us, and we will listen. But don’t let God speak directly to us, or we will die!”

20 “Don’t be afraid,” Moses answered them, “for God has come in this way to test you, and so that your fear of him will keep you from sinning!”

Fear of the LORD will keep people from sinning. That’s what Moses says here in this passage. That explains a lot about people today. In America, we have reduced God to an old man in a rocking chair looking upon mankind “from a distance.” Or, we have decided that God is ONLY a God of love. We seem to ignore the fact that God is HOLY, RIGHTEOUS, AWESOME, & ALL-POWERFUL. I believe a healthy dose of fear is needed once again so we can have a proper perspective, and a proper response to the Creator of all the universe.
