Prime Directive

Matthew 22

34 But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees with his reply, they met together to question him again. 35 One of them, an expert in religious law, tried to trap him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?”

37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.”

Here we see the Prime Directive as laid out by Jesus. In the sci-fi show “Star Trek,” the Prime Directive stated that Starfleet personnel were not to interfere with the development of alien societies or cultures. The Prime Directive of Jesus is exactly the opposite. We are to love God with everything we have, and to love people like God loves them. That DOES mean we will interfere in the cultural and societal development of those around us. We are to help them turn from sin towards God (repentance) so they can learn to love Him as much as we do. We are to do so in a manner that reflects the love of our heavenly Father. May I follow the Prime Directive of Jesus daily.
