Psalm 141
3 Take control of what I say, O Lord,
and guard my lips.
4 Don’t let me drift toward evil
or take part in acts of wickedness.
Don’t let me share in the delicacies
of those who do wrong.
James devotes an entire chapter of his letter to the tongue and the need to keep it under control. I know that I have not always done a very good job in this regard, and there are still plenty of times when I fail to control my tongue. I want to join David this morning in praying, “Take control of what I say O Lord, and guard my lips.” May the things I say be useful in building others up, in encouraging them in the Lord, in rebuking brothers or sisters in error, and always tempered with love.
