18 Telling lies about others
is as harmful as hitting them with an ax,
wounding them with a sword,
or shooting them with a sharp arrow.
There’s an old saying that goes” “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” That is simply not true. Words do hurt. In some of the wise writings of Solomon gathered by King Hezekiah’s advisors, we read that lying about someone is as bad as hitting them with an ax! Yeah, that sounds about right. Lord help me to keep my ax in check. May the words of my mouth not only be truthful, but may they be gracious as well.
