1 John 2
15 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. 17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
Living in America presents a special challenge when it comes to this passage of Scripture. We are prosperous, affluent, spoiled. What we consider “hardships” most of the population of this planet would consider luxury. I have for far too long, been seduced by American Prosperity. I want to use the material blessings God has give me to bless others and to draw others to Christ. Yes, we do that with much of what we have, but as the month of December starts, I want to start being serious about making sure I am not “loving” the things of this world. What I have is Yours, O Lord. Do with it as You please.
