Psalm 41
1 Oh, the joys of those who are kind to the poor!
The Lord rescues them when they are in trouble.
If the joy of the Lord is my strength (and it is), and this Psalm says that there is joy in being kind to the poor, then the joy of the Lord comes from (among other things) being kind to those who are poor. Physically poor. Spiritually poor. Being kind does NOT mean looking at them and say, “be blessed, be well-fed,” and walking off. No, it means getting my hands dirty in service to them. May the joy of the Lord fill my life and may it be marked by (among other things) my service to the poor.
