1 Corinthians 13
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
While this passage is often used in wedding ceremonies, the context in which it was written has nothing to do with a wedding and everything to do with living your daily life in Christ. If we who follow Christ are known by our love, then what should that love look like? It should look like the description in these verses! Patient; kind; not jealous, boastful, or proud; love doesn’t demand its own way, is not irritable, keeps no record of wrongs; doesn’t rejoice about injustice; rejoices when truth wins out. Paul tells us that when we live lives of love, we never give up, never lose faith, are always hopeful and we endure through every circumstance. Man, this living a life of love is tough stuff, eh?
