Sing Praises

Psalm 138

1 I give you thanks, O Lord, with all my heart;
I will sing your praises before the gods.

I am privileged to be the worship dude at Vero Christian Church. I get to select congregational songs to praise our Lord and Savior Jesus. I get to put together other media used for His glory. I get to lead a worship team comprised of some of the most dedicated folks I have ever had the privilege of being around. I am blessed in my “professional life” beyond words. And the blessings I have in my family life are far greater than that! My Bride is Jesus in the flesh to me, showering me with Love and Grace every day. Our kids all love Jesus with their lives. Of course the greatest blessing in my life is my salvation through the Blood of Jesus. How could I do anything other than proclaim my love and my gratitude for my Lord every day?

Tmely Reminder

Psalm 103

1 Let all that I am praise the Lord;
with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.
2 Let all that I am praise the Lord;
may I never forget the good things he does for me.
3 He forgives all my sins
and heals all my diseases.
4 He redeems me from death
and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
5 He fills my life with good things.
My youth is renewed like the eagle’s!

The past couple of days have been filled with angst as Lil Bro has been dealing with drilling into an empty Safe Deposit Box, and disposing of the cats who have resided at Dad’s house. Let’s just say that Ed has been living in hell on earth over the past couple of days, and I have been living it with him via text message and phone calls. With this in mind, we have both tried to remember that God is with us. Thank You, Lord for being there, and for reminding me of my purpose in this reading today. I need You and I need this reminder to praise You with all that I am. You alone are God, and to You alone belongs all glory, honor and praise!

Worthy Representative

Psalm 69

5 O God, you know how foolish I am;
my sins cannot be hidden from you.
6a Don’t let those who trust in you be ashamed because of me,
O Sovereign Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
Don’t let me cause them to be humiliated

Lord, You know what a wretch I am, yet You shower me with Your love and You allow me to represent Your Holy Name. It is with great fear and trembling that I do so, because I know that I am a poor representative of the Sinless, Perfect, Holy Lord of Lords and King of Kings. Father, help me to overcome the sin in my life that brings shame to Your Name. Change my heart Oh Lord. May I live a life worthy of wearing Your Name and representing Your Name to a world that is lost and dying and desperately seeking You whether they know it or not. Don’t let me cause You to be humiliated, and may my influence always lead people to know You and to love You.

Towering Rock of Safety

Psalm 61

1 O God, listen to my cry!
Hear my prayer!
2 From the ends of the earth,
I cry to you for help
when my heart is overwhelmed.
Lead me to the towering rock of safety,
3 for you are my safe refuge,
a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me.
4 Let me live forever in your sanctuary,
safe beneath the shelter of your wings!

The theme of my devo readings these past few days have been extremely interesting. Especially in light of a phone call I received yesterday morning from a former youth group kid (now in their mid 20’s, a parent themselves, etc.) asking for some advice. Crying out in despair, my kid knew that coming back to God and aligning their will with His is the ONLY answer. I got to talk about the patience message God is throwing my way, while reminding this precious child of the King, that they are deeply loved by God. I need that reminder, too. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by the pressures of life that I just need to retreat to God’s fortress of love; that towering rock of safety, and hide beneath His wings. I am so blessed that I am allowed to do so! Thank You, Jesus for making that possible!

The Lord Has My Back

Psalm 40

16 But may all who search for you
be filled with joy and gladness in you.
May those who love your salvation
repeatedly shout, “The Lord is great!”

I seek You today, oh Lord. My life cries out: “The Lord is great!” I know that You are able to see me through ANYTHING this world throws my way, and I know that with You all things are possible. I surrender it to You, my Lord, knowing that You know what is best and that You want what is best. I can be at peace knowing that the Lord has my back!

Committed to the Lord

Psalm 37

5 Commit everything you do to the Lord.
Trust him, and he will help you.
6 He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn,
and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun.

7a Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for him to act.

As I reflect on this Mother’s Day, 2009, I cannot help but think about what advice Mom would give in the current situation in which we find ourselves. I am trying to follow that advice, which I believe is clearly articulated in the verses above. Again, patience is not my strong suit, but I am fully committed to the Lord and want to do only that which pleases Him. There are very difficult choices ahead. There are hard decisions that have to be made. Decisions that won’t be popular. I will do whatever it takes to protect my Dad and my family (Peggy and our kids), whether that makes me “Mr. Popular” or not. Lord, strengthen me for the coming battles, and know that I am committed to do what You would have me do, no matter what.

Patience

Psalm 27

14 Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

Patience is not one of my strong suits. I have told folks for years that I prayed for patience and God gave me three kids. Now, with the current family situation involving my Dad, I am getting to learn a whole new level of patience. So is my Bride. I am so blessed to be married to Peggy! I hurt for Dad so deeply, and just want to help him. How I need to be brave and courageous. I know that can only come from God! Lord, help me to be patient, willing, and serving in every situation, but especially in the situation involving my Dad.
